terminator

There is a lot of things to learn. And we learn day after day. This is my first day as a blogger - samurai panda.

I have to learn lots of things. First lesson: being clear about what I'm saying.
A bit about myself - I'm a half assed programmer, vigorous daydreamer. With the lazy attitude I've got I'm making my life hard to live. I've to change my path.

What is it: to be a good programmer? One of the great questions lately. Being able to solve every kind of stuff? Just be able to learn harder than almost anybody else in the world? To be in the control all the times? To be a modern age samurai?

I need to tell something, so i will dive in.

My first experiences with Unix and Linux type operating systems (deliberately being fuzzy about the definition) was with a FreeBSD. The funny terminal emulator with mouse support made me laugh, but trying to live with it was not laughable at all. After a little while I made X window system functional. One of the great time killers at the time was to look at different kinds of terminal emulators, comparing them, reading technical details about them. I went with xterm. Some months passed with fruitful work on my Unix skills, my friend show me a prettier terminal, rxvt-unicode. I was bought, and started to configure it throughly as a primary terminal emulator.

Switching to Linux and losing part of my configs opened up a new age of researching application to ease the use of the desktop. After a while I choose a new terminal emulator, the comfy gnome terminal. The developers sped it up a bit, and it was usable alright.

The last switch was today. It is the "terminator" terminal emulator, with split screen support. I think it uses my gnome terminal setup as well, so the switch is quite painless. I use a quad core workstation, so I don't even consider a faster terminal emulator to speed up my system. Try it if you need split screen.
